Job Title: Cloud Systems Engineer / Cloud Systems Architect (Google Cloud Platform - SME)
Location: Eagan, MN - Remote
Duration: 5 Months +(Possible Extension)
Pay Range: $80 - $85/hr W2

 

This role requires a highly experienced cloud professional with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), enterprise architecture, cloud migration strategies, automation, security, and large-scale application deployment.

Position Summary

The Cloud Systems Engineer / Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and governing enterprise cloud infrastructure and platform solutions within Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in cloud architecture, cloud-native technologies, infrastructure modernization, application integration, security, compliance, automation, and enterprise-scale solution delivery.

This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to technical and executive leadership, driving cloud adoption initiatives, establishing architecture standards, and ensuring alignment with enterprise technology strategies.

 

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Strategy & Architecture

  • Design and implement enterprise cloud solutions aligned with organizational technology strategies.
  • Develop cloud architecture deliverables, including:
    • Reference architectures
    • Solution designs
    • Bills of materials
    • Cost estimates
    • Implementation guidance
  • Define cloud standards, design patterns, policies, and governance frameworks.
  • Lead architecture reviews and technical solution development efforts.
  • Ensure alignment between infrastructure, applications, security, and enterprise architecture standards.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout solution lifecycle activities.
  • Drive cloud adoption initiatives and cultural transformation efforts.
  • Participate in development of cloud roadmaps and modernization strategies.
  • Promote best practices and standards for cloud-hosted solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and industry trends.
  • Assess business value and recommend innovative solutions.
  • Provide strategic guidance regarding future cloud investments and architecture direction.
  • Ensure architecture governance processes are followed.
  • Establish and maintain cloud solution standards.
  • Support compliance, security, and risk management requirements.
  • Provide enterprise-level architectural guidance and consulting.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex issues.
  • Participate in specialized problem-solving initiatives and critical incident response efforts.
  • Collaborate with vendors, project teams, and stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of cloud solutions.

Must Have Skills:

Cloud & Architecture Expertise

  • Active Google Cloud Associate or Professional Certification (required).
  • Expert-level knowledge of Google Cloud Platform services and architecture.
  • Extensive experience designing, developing, and deploying scalable cloud solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Deep understanding of cloud service models including:
    • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
    • Platform as a Service (PaaS)
    • Software as a Service (SaaS)
  • Experience building and supporting highly available, secure, and resilient cloud architectures.

Enterprise Technology Experience

  • Experience integrating GCP solutions with enterprise technologies including IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Linux, SAP, and other SaaS/on-premises platforms.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure architecture, including:
    • Compute
    • Networking
    • Storage
    • Virtualization
    • Monitoring
    • Performance Management
    • High Availability and Disaster Recovery

Cloud Security & Compliance

  • Experience supporting regulated environments and compliance frameworks such as:
    • SOX
    • PCI
    • Enterprise Risk Management
  • Strong understanding of cloud security architecture, governance, and operational controls.

Automation & DevOps

  • Experience automating infrastructure and operational processes using tools and technologies such as:
    • Terraform
    • Ansible
    • CloudFormation
    • Chef
    • Puppet
    • Python
    • Shell Scripting
    • PowerShell
    • Ruby
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Test-Driven Development (TDD)
    • Agile Software Development
    • Continuous Integration and Deployment
  • Experience designing cloud-native microservices architectures.
  • Knowledge of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles.
  • Experience with containerization and deployment strategies in large-scale production environments.
  • Understanding of Kafka ecosystem architecture and deployment concepts.
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Proficiency in Generative AI technologies and prompt engineering.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities within large enterprise ecosystems.
  • Ability to apply design patterns to create scalable, maintainable, and reusable solutions.
  • Strong documentation skills, including architecture diagrams, technical specifications, and implementation guides.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present technical concepts to executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing executive briefings, recommendations, and strategic reports.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence enterprise-wide technology decisions.
  • Experience mentoring technical teams and providing architectural guidance.
  • Capability to work independently on high-visibility and mission-critical initiatives.

  • Four (4) additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • If the degree is not in a directly related field, four (4) additional years of related experience are required.
