TITLE: Job Coach / Exceptional Children''s Teacher Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree or 48 semester hours of college level coursework and Effective Teacher Training course.
Ability to drive a school bus.
Experience working with high school students.
Understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward students with disabilities.
Knowledge of the Carteret County business community.
Effective communication skills, oral and written.
Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures.
Effective conflict resolution, negotiation, problem-solving, and advocacy skills, and promote these skills in individuals served.
Initiative and flexibility to adapt easily to changing situations.
Physically able to work alongside student when teaching skills

REPORTS TO: Work Experience Coordinator, Transition Coordinator, EC Director
JOB GOAL: Assist students with disabilities in acquiring job skills and monitor their on-the-job performance both in Community-based and paid employment positions. Provide clerical support for the Carteret County School Work Adjustment Program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists Occupational Preparation teachers with assessing interests, employability and job readiness skills.
- Accompanies students on job shadowing opportunities.
- Provides direct job coaching instruction/demonstration using both verbal and hands-on methods. Teaches students steps for job completion.
- Assists students with the understanding of rules and regulations and proper social skills.
- Provides follow-up and support services for both student worker and employer.
- Assesses job performance of students. Monitors acquisition of skills and keeps careful data records.
- Provides transportation for students as needed during regular school hours.
- Communicates effectively with employers, students, teachers, and parents.
- Assists teachers with both community-based and paid employment experiences.
- Assists the school administrations in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
- Completes all paperwork necessary for the School Work Adjustment Program. Collect data on evaluations and hours.
- Participates in Transition Team meetings for the purpose of providing information on student progress toward IEP transition goals.
- Maintains student confidentiality.
- Participates in staff development.
- Performs such alternatives to the above responsibilities that supervisors may deem appropriate and acceptable.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten month year. Salary based on state salary scale
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Teacher Assistants.
