Job Title: Job Architecture & Compensation Consultant (Contract)
Location: Fully Remote (U.S.)
Employment Type: Contract (10–12+ Weeks)
Compensation: $45 – $55 per hour
Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Job Architecture & Compensation Consultant to lead the end-to-end design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive job architecture and compensation framework.

This high-impact role will establish a scalable foundation for job structure, career progression, compensation strategy, and internal equity across the organization. The consultant will partner cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and business leadership to deliver a fully operational framework aligned with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities
Discovery and Assessment
  • Review existing job descriptions, organizational structures, and title conventions
  • Evaluate current compensation practices, pay ranges, and decision-making processes
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, title inflation, compression issues, and equity risks
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews across HR, Finance, and business leadership
  • Deliver a formal current-state assessment and gap analysis

Job Architecture Design
  • Define job functions and job families across the organization
  • Design career level frameworks across multiple tracks (individual contributor, management, technical, executive)
  • Develop leveling criteria including scope, impact, autonomy, and leadership expectations
  • Establish grade and band structures aligned to business needs
  • Facilitate stakeholder sessions to validate and refine framework design

Compensation Strategy and Salary Banding
  • Define or refine compensation philosophy, including market positioning and pay strategy
  • Conduct market pricing using compensation surveys and benchmarking tools
  • Develop salary bands (minimum, midpoint, maximum) aligned to job levels
  • Perform internal equity and compression analysis
  • Model financial impact of compensation adjustments and provide recommendations

Job Mapping and Title Standardization
  • Map existing roles into the new job architecture framework
  • Develop standardized job titles and naming conventions
  • Identify roles requiring reclassification or redesign
  • Lead calibration sessions with stakeholders to validate leveling decisions
  • Deliver employee alignment and reclassification plans

Implementation and System Integration
  • Define job code structures and prepare data for HRIS integration
  • Partner with internal teams to support system configuration and alignment
  • Ensure integration across performance management and compensation planning tools
  • Validate data accuracy and system integrity post-implementation
  • Establish governance processes for ongoing framework maintenance

Rollout and Change Management
  • Develop and execute communication and rollout strategies
  • Train managers on job architecture, compensation bands, and career pathways
  • Support leadership with employee communication and escalations
  • Deliver governance models for long-term sustainability

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in Compensation, Total Rewards, or HR Strategy
  • Proven experience designing and implementing job architecture frameworks
  • Strong expertise in compensation benchmarking, market pricing, and salary band development
  • Experience conducting equity analysis and compensation modeling
  • Ability to lead cross-functional stakeholder discussions and executive presentations
  • Experience working with HR systems and compensation tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare, technology, or high-growth organizations
  • Prior consulting experience leading similar engagements
  • Experience implementing job architecture frameworks within HR systems
  • Familiarity with UKG, Lattice, or similar platforms
  • Experience with compensation survey data and benchmarking tools
