At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by providing innovative and reliable technology products and services as part of our ongoing commitment to democratize access to investing and financial planning.

CCAT is a key tower in Schwab Broker-Dealer Service Engineering. We build the Schwab Customer Identifier (SCID) — the unified identity layer that resolves the same client across Schwab affiliates and powers a true 360° view of every customer across all lines of business. As an Engineer on CCAT, youll build and ship features that touch every Schwab client.

Were specifically seeking engineers shaped by product-engineering environments, product companies, or in-house engineering orgs — where you owned what you built, not just delivered against a ticket. The bar at CCAT is high ownership and accountability: you treat the product as yours, you stay with what you ship, and youre measured by the outcome — not by the handoff.

This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, making sound decisions in fast-moving environments, and using AI-enabled development practices to improve productivity and code quality. You will use tools such as GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted workflows to accelerate development while maintaining ownership for reviewing, testing, validating, and releasing high-quality code. Your work will help modernize legacy processes, improve platform performance, reduce risk, and support consistent delivery across critical business applications.

What You Have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of challenging the status quo, this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot and/or Claude Code within development workflows.

• Ability to leverage AI tools for code generation, test creation, troubleshooting, and development acceleration while maintaining ownership of code quality, accuracy, and performance.

• 6+ years of experience developing applications using Java, Spring, and RESTful web services.

• 2+ years of experience working with distributed or NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and/or Yugabyte.

• 2+ years of experience with continuous build and source control tools such as Bamboo, Bitbucket, or Git.

• 2+ years of experience developing cloud-based solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure.

• Experience working within Agile development environments utilizing tools such as Jira and Confluence.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to deliver committed work reliably and effectively communicate risks, dependencies, and blockers.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience building event-driven systems using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging technologies.

• 1+ year of experience developing real-time data or streaming applications.

• Exposure to batch processing frameworks or data pipeline technologies, including Spring Batch or PySpark.

• Experience designing and implementing scalable distributed systems.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering teams while adapting to evolving business and technical priorities.

• In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.

What’s in it for you

At Schwab, you’re empowered to shape your future. We champion your growth through meaningful work, continuous learning, and a culture of trust and collaboration—so you can build the skills to make a lasting impact. Our Hybrid Work and Flexibility approach balances our ongoing commitment to workplace flexibility, serving our clients, and our strong belief in the value of being together in person on a regular basis.

We offer a competitive benefits package that takes care of the whole you – both today and in the future:

• Paid time for vacation, volunteering, and 28-day sabbatical after every 5 years of service for eligible positions

• Paid parental leave and family building benefits
