Job Description:

Apex Systems is currently hiring for a Mid level Java Developer role with one of our top clients in Hoover, AL.

Qualified candidates will have the following experience and skills:

  • 3-5+ years of Java development experience
  • Experience with Spring / Spring Boot
  • Experience with Maven
  • Strong understanding of SQL or structured databases
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs or microservices architectures
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Location: Hoover, AL- Hybrid

Duration: 6 month contract with potential for fulltime

We are seeking a mid-level Java Developer to join a highly tenured team supporting critical billing and financial systems within a large healthcare organization. This role offers a strong contract-to-hire opportunity and the chance to contribute to ongoing modernization efforts, transitioning legacy systems into modern Java-based applications.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working on enterprise-scale systems, collaborating across teams, and gaining exposure to modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain existing billing and payment application systems
  • Assist in the modernization of legacy systems into Java-based microservices
  • Develop and enhance backend services using Java, Spring, and related technologies
  • Work with relational databases to query, analyze, and manage data
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and cross-functional teams
  • Participate in Agile development practices and team discussions
  • Ensure code quality and contribute to maintaining stable system performance

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of Java development experience
  • Experience with Spring / Spring Boot
  • Experience with Maven
  • Strong understanding of SQL or structured databases
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs or microservices architectures
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with DB2 (strongly preferred)

  • Familiarity with:

  • JUnit (testing)

  • Git / version control tools

  • Spring Batch

  • Agile/Scrum environments

  • Exposure to:

  • Legacy systems or modernization projects

  • Batch processing or mainframe environments

  • Code quality tools or modern IDEs

  • Experience or interest in AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, etc.)
