Overview of Position
The job of Instructional Assistant is done for the purpose(s) of working with individual and/or small groups of students under the supervision of a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of students; and providing clerical support to teacher/s and staff. Employees in this classification will receive a variety of assignments including classroom support, clerical support, library, lunchroom, health room and playground, etc.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, structured, and positive school wide systems throughout the day. The Instructional Assistant leads recess and lunch routines, supports Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports recognition systems, assists with setting up assemblies, supports Math Challenge programming, and provides targeted classroom intervention support.
This role requires initiative, strong judgment, and the ability to solve problems in real time while maintaining positive relationships with students and adults.

Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is some opportunity to effect the Organizations services.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions

Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following:
(a) Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment as published by PESB; or(b) Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or(c) Have earned seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher at an accredited college or university; or(d) Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
YEARS of RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of related paid work experience.
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:
Valid State of Washington Drivers License or evidence of equivalent mobility

Criminal Justice Fingerprint and Background Clearance
