As a Jail Booking Specialist, you will manage the high-stakes environment of the booking room. Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Inmate Processing: Managing the full intake and release cycle, ensuring all computer and paper records are legally compliant and meticulously maintained.
  • Legal Documentation: Reading and interpreting complex legal writs, medical instructions, commitment orders, and summonses.
  • Communication & Crisis Management: Utilizing interpersonal skills to provide directions to inmates and the public, mediating disputes, and performing crisis intervention-including recognizing abnormal behavior or suicide risks.
  • Safety & Security: Conducting searches for contraband and performing visual and audio surveillance of inmates for extended periods.
  • Systems Operation: Operating the CCIC/NCIC computer systems for teletypes and queries, and entering data into specialized criminal justice databases.
  • Facility Support: Answering phones, managing property intake, collecting fees, and maintaining an inventory of necessary supplies and forms.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience: At least one (1) year of experience in basic clerical work.

  • Technical Skills: Ability to type at least 35 words per minute and proficiency in basic office software (email, word processing, and spreadsheets).

  • Availability: Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working within a criminal justice setting.

  • A degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong command of the English language (grammar, spelling, and punctuation).

  • The ability to exercise independent judgment and remain professional in an "antagonistic environment" where you may encounter hostile individuals.

  • The capacity to learn and interpret Colorado State laws and Constitutional case law pertaining to the jail environment.

  • Excellent physical senses to detect conditions such as smoke, odors, or unusual noises within the facility.

Note: This is a Non-Exempt (FLSA) position. In the event of a local emergency or disaster, employees may be required to serve as Disaster Service Workers.

We encourage you to think about your unique background and skills before applying. People often underestimate how their experiences match up with a role's needs. We encourage you to apply if you meet the minimum qualifications and believe your skills and perspective can add value to this position.
