About this Job

Information Services provides information technology infrastructure and support to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism that assist in the preservation, promotion, and development of Louisianas historical, cultural, educational, natural, and recreational resources, while maintaining compliance with statewide information technology policies and standards.

The incumbent of this position is a skilled, experienced network engineer who provides high-level technical assistance and support as the sole network engineer at the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism (DCRT). The incumbent plans, installs, configures, troubleshoots, supports, and manages the growth of DCRTs complex Wide Area Network (WAN) that includes 67 locations at state parks, welcome centers, museums, and administrative offices statewide.

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of experience in information technology; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

An associates degree in information technology plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus three years of experience in information technology; OR

A master's degree plus three years of experience in information technology.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Provide knowledgeable support, maintenance, configuration, upgrades and expansion of network services under the supervision of the Technical Support Supervisor.
  • Help install, configure, and administer all necessary network software and services on Windows Enterprise servers and desktop operating systems.
  • Configures and administers Domain Name Service (DNS), Windows Internet Name Service (WINS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and NetBIOS for Internet connectivity, name resolution, and access to related network functions and protocols.
  • Responsible for maintenance, repair, improvement, and expansion of over 70 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) that provide free public Internet access (WiFi) via multiple meshed access points, routers, and radios at state parks and welcome centers.
  • Coordinates with the Technical Support Supervisor to prioritize and schedule wifi repair work in the field to mesh with his job duties on the wired LAN and servers at the Annex.
  • Employs highly advanced knowledge of network systems, years of experience with different broad, network topologies, extensive hands-on experience planning and installing wired and wireless networks and a solid skill set required to configure, troubleshoot and repair the wifi components above and incorporate new wifi components as they are introduced.
  • Configures and maintains Domain-wide, group-wide, organizational unit-wide policys with Windows Active Directory structure under consultation with the Technical Support Supervisor.
  • Uses Active Directory to add and remove user accounts, manage users placing them in appropriate groups with necessary permissions and access rights to subdirectories, resources, network printing and other services.
  • Troubleshoots complex network problems in consultation with the Supervisor and coordinates remediation to obtain consistent and reliable network performance.
  • Provides quality control on large network projects; identifies network problems and directs project technicians to resolve them quickly.
  • Responsible for introducing new technologies that lower network costs and improve network performance and security.

Position Specific Details:

Location: Capitol Annex, Baton Rouge, LA

Position Type: This position will be filled as a promotion of a current permanent employee of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism or The Office of the Lieutenant Governor serving in a classified position.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as an IT Technical Specialist 1 or 2, depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant. Working Hours: Full-time 8 am - 4:30 pm. This position may be required to travel if necessary.
