JOB SUMMARY This position performs technical duties in support of the citys information technology operations . MAJOR DUTIES • Sets up and installs computers and related hardware for city departments. • Creates and maintains documentation on computer software and hardware setups. • Assists with the installation and updating of software. • Assists in the maintenance and updating of computer hardware. • Assists in the training of city personnel in the use of computer hardware and software. • Troubleshoots and corrects any hardware or software problems on city computers, networks and peripheral devices. • Remains informed of changing industry standards and best practices. • Performs related duties. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION • Knowledge of software installation and maintenance. • Knowledge of basic hardware installation techniques. • Knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of peripheral devices. • Skill in troubleshooting and problem solving. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Information Technology Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include department and city policies and procedures . These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK • The work consists of related technical duties. Frequent changes to industry standards contribute to the complexity of the position . • The purpose of this position is to perform technical duties in support of the citys information technology functions . Successful performance helps ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of city operations. CONTACTS • Contacts are typically with coworkers, vendors , contractors, and the general public. • Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and distinguishes between shades of color. • The work is typically performed in an office . SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of an associates degree in the field of work and or equivalent specialized training , certifications and experience in the field of work. Information Technology Technician , Information Technology Page 3 • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. • Must be able to pass a background check to be able to have access to the CJIS system at the Police Department which includes fingerprinting.
