Job Title: IT Security and Systems Analyst

Position Description: The IT Security and Systems Analyst is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and coordinating security measures across both the systems and network teams of Rio Rancho Public Schools' IT environment. This position bridges the Systems and Network teams, ensuring collaboration throughout the District.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience or current enrollment in such a program will be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in IT systems administration, cybersecurity, or related technical role;
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise Windows servers, Active Directory/Entra ID, and VMware;
  • Experience with network security, firewalls (Palo Alto preferred), VPNs, and segmentation;
  • Familiarity with endpoint management, patch compliance, and vulnerability management tools; and
  • Experience in an educational environment preferred.

Licensure/Certifications (preferred, not required):

  • CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or equivalent;
  • Microsoft Security or Systems certifications (e.g., MS-500, SC-200);
  • Palo Alto Networks PCCET/PCNSA or equivalent; and
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Solid understanding of information security principles (least privilege, zero trust, defense in depth);
  • Proficiency with Active Directory, Group Policy, Entra ID security, and endpoint hardening;
  • Familiarity with SIEM/SOAR, logging, and monitoring tools;
  • Knowledge of incident response and disaster recovery practices;
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across systems and network domains;
  • Ability to collaborate with Systems, Network, and Service Desk teams to ensure consistent security posture;
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and electronic);
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team; and
  • Aptitude for rapidly learning and applying new security technologies.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, analyze, and remediate security alerts across systems and network infrastructure;
  • Apply security best practices to servers, Active Directory/Entra ID, VMware, and cloud services;
  • Assist with network security, including firewall policy reviews, segmentation, and VPN administration;
  • Coordinate patch management and vulnerability remediation with Systems and Network teams;
  • Respond to and document security incidents, collaborating with stakeholders for resolution;
  • Participate in bi-weekly Security Working Group with Systems Architect, Network Architect, and Executive Director of IT;
  • Develop and maintain playbooks for incident response and frontline support (e.g., phishing, compromised accounts);
  • Conduct periodic security audits, privileged account reviews, and compliance reporting;
  • Maintain accurate documentation of security processes, configurations, and changes;
  • Provide security guidance to Service Desk and Technicians to promote district-wide awareness;
  • Support disaster recovery planning and execution;
  • Implement and maintain the District Security Awareness Training Program;
  • Comply with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and uphold and enforce rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state, and federal regulations; and
  • The employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the District during the term of employment.

Work Hours: Work hours are established in employment contract. Additional work hours may be assigned by the supervisor.
