Job Title IT Business Intelligence Analyst I-III / IT Analytics Engineer I-III Position Number 999831 Department Information Technology Salary $60,000 - $75,000 Remote No Job Summary

Under general supervision, develops data models to meet the needs of the organization's information systems, manages the flow of information between departments, maintains data integrity, and stays informed of the ways the organization uses its data. Responsible for capturing and modeling data requirements, data definitions, business rules, data quality requirements, and logical and physical data models. Creates and maintains reports that contain critical information to assist the business in making decisions.

Responsible for designing data infrastructure to extract and organize data for authorized individuals to access. Duties include identifying the university's internal and external data sources, collaborating with departments to determine their data storage and organizational needs, and using the information to create and maintain data infrastructure for company employees.

Essential Duties

  • Assists/Applies in the development and implementation of an overall organizational data strategy that is in line with university goals and processes. Assists/Applies in identifying data sources, both internal and external, and develop a plan for data management. The strategy includes data model designs, database development standards, implementation and management of data warehouses and data analytics systems.
  • Assists/Applies in working with Data Engineers to develop logical and physical data models. Create and maintain data maps for data domains and systems. Resolve errors in the data, attempting to remove irrelevant and redundant data, and address missing data. Use data cleaning techniques to prepare data for manipulation and visualization. Develop best practices for data coding, ensure consistency within the system, and review modifications of existing cross-compatible systems. Troubleshoot and optimize data systems and evaluate implemented systems for data inconsistencies and efficiency.
  • Assists/Applies in working with functional and technical teams, analyzing and translating business needs into conceptual data models and data flows that address their needs. Provide data needed to support decision-making on campus. Captures requirements, designs, creates, manages, and fulfills requests for reports, dashboards, and scorecards that effectively explain trends, patterns, and projections based on pertinent data.
  • Assists/Applies in using best practices for data coding, ensure consistency within the system, and review modifications of existing cross-compatible systems. Troubleshoot and optimize data systems and evaluate implemented systems for data inconsistencies and efficiency. Assists/Applies creating executive-level reports and dashboards that effectively explain trends, patterns, and projections based on pertinent data.   • Leverage common software tools (i.e. ticketing and project management software) to follow request, incident, change management, project management and time tracking processes. Provide updates to associated tickets and projects to keep both customers and team members informed of current status or progress. Assist with team responsibility of queue management and ensure tickets are resolved accurately, timely and according to priority. Collaborate with the Information Security Team to ensure security policies and standards are followed and enforced. Work in partnership with other IT team members and campus officials to ensure execution of disaster recovery and business continuity testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Banner and related software that would facilitate improved business processes.
  • Power BI & Cognos reporting toolset.
  • SQL programming language as it relates to a database environment.
  • Applicable University rules, regulation, policies, and procedures.
  • Principles, practices, and procedures of computer programming/scripting.
  • Database environments.
  • PHP, Python, SQL, PL/SQL.
  • Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Data reporting, dashboards, and outcome tracking for program assessment.

Skill in:

  • Best-practice programming/scripting techniques.
  • Secure coding practices.
  • Adapting and maintaining existing applications, frameworks, and API's.
  • Interpersonal relations and project management.
  • Expressing technical terminology in an understandable manner to customers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, M.I.S. or related field required.
  • Additional experience in the support of a networked desktop/application environment may substitute for the Bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of technology-related experience required.
  • Additional consideration may be given to candidates with specific technical certifications related to systems applicable to Angelo State University.
