Position Description

The IS Advisor 2 supports the operational needs of Metro's Data Center environments by performing technical, hands-on tasks that help ensure reliable and efficient operations.

ITS is a 24x7 information technology shop. Applicant must be willing and available to perform duties as required by the job. This may include work on nights, weekends and holidays.

Typical Duties

  • Ensures the overall health and availability of data center support services.
  • Designs and ensures adherence to efficient use of data center space.
  • Manages and monitors environmental aspects of satellite sites.
  • Participates in Disaster Recovery planning and execution.
  • Monitors and manage environmental controls and security systems for data centers.
  • Oversees installation and support related to all equipment, software, and tools associated with the day-to-day management of data center and satellite sites.
  • Coordinates third-party and vendor activities.
  • Assists with creation and maintenance of standards, policies, and procedures specific to functional area.
  • Prepares clear and concise documentation which is situation appropriate and relevant to the audience.
  • Communicates technical material to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Participates or leads in long-term planning of maintenance systems required to support the data center.
  • Works with Metro ITS teams and customers to identify power loads and heat loads for adding equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

5 or more years of experience in operating, engineering, or consulting, data center environments and facilities.

Candidate must receive and maintain a passing status from Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) background check.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Associate degree in Information Technology or related field
  • Experience in Information Technology Leadership
  • Experience in Data Center Operations
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • ITIL Certification
