This is skilled manual work in the alteration, maintenance and repair of Water Resources facilities, buildings and grounds. Work involves the use of skilled trade knowledge to install, clean, repair or replace various facility components. Facilities may include fencing, lawn sprinkling systems, plumbing components, electrical fixtures, and other building components such as doors, windows, hardware, trim work and painting. Work may also include the ability to read and understand manuals, blueprints and schematics to determine assembly or repair needs; skilled use of a variety of tools; painting, carpentry, plumbing, and masonry tasks; and preventative and scheduled maintenance.

Work is often performed outdoors and occasionally in inclement weather. Work may involve lead worker responsibility over one or more semi-skilled workers on an assigned project and monitoring and inspection of work performed by independent outside contractors in and around the Water Resources property. Because of the critical responsibilities of this class, this position may require overtime or call back hours on nights and weekends to report to work outside of the regularly scheduled shift to address scheduled maintenance or urgent repairs at the discretion of management.

Salary: $21.70 - $30.97 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Be able to read, write, and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Have at least one year of experience in one or more of the building maintenance trades detailed above.
  • Be able to perform manual tasks for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Have considerable experience in grounds maintenance repair and irrigation.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have two years' experience performing mechanical installation and maintenance, preferably also with experience in irrigation system maintenance.
  • Have some experience using a personal computer for communications and record keeping purposes.
