# Job Description

## Role Overview The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate, compliant, and efficient control of raw materials and finished goods in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role owns inventory integrity and traceability across ERP and shop floor systems, executing cycle counts, investigating variances, managing heat/lot and Country of Origin requirements, and ensuring materials are properly received, located, and issued to support uninterrupted production.

Partnering closely with Supply Chain, Buyer/Planners, and Operations, the specialist uses data analysis and continuous improvement methods to anticipate shortages, optimize inventory levels and warehouse layout, reduce scrap and aging stock, and strengthen material flow and visibility. This position serves as a key subject matter expert for inventory accuracy, compliance, and process improvement across the facility.

## Responsibilities

  • Cycle Counts & Accuracy:

  • Perform inventory cycle counts regularly.

  • Have cycle count signed off on for the first 6 months to eliminate the possibility of inaccurate information.

  • Ensure material is inventoried correctly with corresponding Victaulic part codes.

  • Maintain 98-100% inventory accuracy through cycle counts, reconciliations, and root-cause analysis of variances.

  • Investigate in BPCS/AS400 when material amounts become inaccurate and investigate which shop order caused inaccuracies.

  • Keep historical data records of material inaccuracies to determine which materials have regularly been inaccurate.

  • Organization & Layout:

  • Regularly organize inventory into defined locations and notify the Supply Chain & Logistics Manager when a more strategically sound location is determined.

  • Keep a shared Excel file of locations.

  • Optimize warehouse layout, storage methods, and material flow to reduce travel time and improve throughput.

  • Report professional insight to the Supply Chain Manager by way of research and data analysis.

  • Participate in 5S events when pertaining to inventory.

  • Material Inspection & Receiving:

  • Inspect incoming material for quality and damage.

  • Ensure correct material is delivered and received into appropriate inventory locations through internal inventory locator systems, BPCS, and Mendix software systems.

  • Assist material handlers in properly receiving material, ensuring correct heat number and Country of Origin (COO) is put into inventory and then into allocatable locations.

  • Monitor raw steel, plate, bar, pipe, and finished product stocks; ensure correct heat/lot traceability.

  • Manage Country of Origin (COO) for materials and work with material handlers to ensure proper Country of Origin is marked on material on a consistent basis.

  • Planning & Forecasting:

  • Assist Buyer/Planners by analyzing daily product and supply level requirements to anticipate inventory shortages or compliance issues (Global being used for AIS) for upcoming shop orders.

  • Perform this analysis on a daily or semi-weekly basis to allow the buyer/planner team to investigate material POs or orders for upcoming jobs.

  • Analyze demand patterns, consumption trends, and production run rates to forecast inventory needs.

  • Analyze facility needs for inventory min/max. Regularly analyze.

  • Data Management & Reporting:

  • Function as the "go-to" subject matter expert for on-site inventory locations of materials.

  • Keep an accurate and professional record of material and their corresponding locations by way of the BPCS locator system and Victaulic part codes into a shared Excel file.

  • Issue material into the BPCS ERP system after shop order completion.

  • Maintain historical data by way of a shared Excel file to log over-usage by operator, material, shop order, and date of over-usage.

  • Manage scrap in the Mendix shop floor control system; maintain and analyze historical data for scrap.

  • Verify material availability for released shop orders and notify Buyer/Planners of shortages; perform inventory corrections by way of inventory adjustments and maintain records for future data analysis.

  • Report on inventory levels, supply chain progress, and procedural efficiency to the Supply Chain & Logistics Manager in the form of weekly 1:1s.

  • Collaborate with (software engineers) Mendix team to create a process with which to track work in process (WIP) materials within the first 3 to 5 months, while concurrently establishing visual dashboards and daily/weekly reports.

  • Investigate aging inventory, slow-moving stock, and obsolete materials within the system and by visual inspection; recommend disposition or scrap (SLOB).

  • Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead and participate in 100% physical inventory count at the end of the year (or assist depending upon when hired).

  • Lead and participate in Lean/5S/continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste and improving material handling.

  • Identify root causes of inventory issues using tools like 5-Why, pivot tables, and Pareto analysis.

  • Propose process improvements to strengthen traceability, reduce carrying costs, and prevent stockouts.

  • Perform any other related duties as determined by the Supply Chain & Logistics Manager.

## Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of inventory, supply chain, or production analysis experience-manufacturing/metalwork strongly preferred.
  • Highly proficient with ERP systems (Preferably BPCS and possibly M3).
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly master complex ERP and manufacturing software; (Preferred BPCS/AS400 ERP and Mendix shop floor control systems).
  • Advanced capability in data analytics and reporting.
  • Highly proficient and experienced in Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn raw data into actionable insights.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing flows, MRP concepts, and steel industry traceability requirements.
  • Must be comfortable in a manufacturing plant environment daily as well as an office setting.
