Inventory Manager
McGovern Toyota of Portsmouth — Portsmouth, NH Full-Time | On-Site | $27–$29/hour
About the Role
McGovern Toyota of Portsmouth, part of the McGovern Automotive Group, is seeking a highly organized, self-directed Inventory Manager to own our vehicle inventory lifecycle from the moment a unit hits our lot to the moment it sells. This role is the backbone of our merchandising and reconditioning pipeline — you'll be responsible for how our vehicles look online, how fast they get front-line ready, and how smoothly our wholesale and title processes run.
This is a role for someone who takes pride in ownership. You won't be micromanaged — you'll be trusted to run your lane and communicate proactively.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Merchandising
- Photograph all Pre-owned inventory to dealership standards (exterior, interior, feature shots)
- Write accurate, compelling vehicle descriptions for our website and third-party listing platforms
- Ensure every unit is fully merchandised online quickly and that listings stay accurate through the life of the vehicle
Inventory Lifecycle Tracking
- Track every vehicle from trade-in/acquisition through reconditioning to front-line ready status
- Maintain accurate status reporting so management always knows where every unit stands and what's holding it up
- Identify and flag bottlenecks in the recon pipeline to keep days-to-frontline low
Wholesale & Titles
- Track auction-bound vehicles from designation through sale
- Monitor title status on trades, auction units, and wholesale deals; follow up on outstanding titles
Vendor & Lot Management
- Manage and coordinate third-party vendors (photography, detail, recon, transport, etc.) — scheduling, quality control, and accountability
- Organize and maintain the physical lot: display standards, staging, and vehicle location tracking
What We're Looking For
- Exceptional organizational skills — you build systems, not piles
- Strong proficiency with Excel and/or Google Sheets (tracking, sorting, reporting)
- Self-starter who works independently and doesn't need to be managed day-to-day
- Strong communication skills — you keep managers, vendors, and departments in the loop without being asked
- Photography skills and an eye for presentation
- Comfortable and proficient with computers and web-based tools
- General knowledge of vehicles (makes, models, trims, features)
- Valid driver's license and ability to move vehicles on the lot
Nice to Have
- Prior dealership, detail, recon, or automotive photography experience
- Familiarity with inventory management or merchandising tools (vAuto, HomeNet, Dealer.com, etc.)
- Experience coordinating vendors or contractors
Why McGovern Toyota of Portsmouth
- High-volume, growing store within one of New England's largest automotive groups
- Direct visibility with dealership leadership — your work impacts the whole operation
- $27–$29 per hour, based on experience
- Full benefits package: health, dental, 401(k), paid time off, and employee vehicle purchase discounts
