Summary:

The Inventory Control Associate - RDC is accountable for ensuring high levels of warehouse inventory accuracy and timely responses to all inventory-related communications. This role performs monthly cycle counts, publishes daily results, runs various reports to identify shrink and discrepancies, and reconciles merchandise invoices and purchase orders. The Inventory Control Associate serves as a liaison between stores and the local distribution center, monitors in-transit inventory, manages merchandise movement and disposal processes, and supports quality control programs. Responsibilities:

Cycle Counting & Inventory Accuracy

  • Perform monthly cycle counts in the warehouse to meet financial requirements and maintain inventory accuracy targets
  • Publish daily cycle count results, run reports to identify shrink for the day, and report findings by end of day
  • Analyze inventory transactions to identify and resolve exceptions, discrepancies, and shrinkage issues
  • Investigate and resolve inventory-related issues including location errors, quantity variances, and system discrepancies
  • Audit other employees inventory transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with procedures
  • Document findings and corrections and submit to the Operations Manager for review

Reporting & Analysis

  • Run various daily, weekly, and monthly reports including: Use Tax; Quarterly Inventory; MTO Transfer Order; Credit Memo; Invalid Location; Zero Retail and Zero Location; Cost with System; Un-Nailed and Nailed; Bridge; and other reports to ensure correct movement of merchandise and identify discrepancies
  • Analyze report data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement
  • Track and report on inventory accuracy metrics and key performance indicators
  • Maintain accurate documentation of inventory adjustments, corrections, and exception handling

Invoice & Purchase Order Reconciliation

  • Reconcile retail merchandise invoices and purchase orders to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Reconcile past due purchase orders and work with vendors and receiving teams to resolve issues
  • Review shipping and receiving documents for accuracy and compliance with company standards
  • Support Distribution Center service representatives with billing and receiving issues
  • Process and document adjustments for invoice discrepancies and receiving variances

Merchandise Movement & Transfer Management

  • Monitor in-transit inventory and location changes with respect to store-to-store, store-to-warehouse, and warehouse-to-store transfers
  • Manage adjustment of inventory adds and losses in the system
  • Coordinate product movement when inventory needs to be moved from one location to another
  • Manage merchandise movement, liquidation, and disposal processes in accordance with company policies
  • Ensure proper documentation and system updates for all inventory movements

Labeling & Location Management

  • Maintain labeling for all physical locations to ensure proper identification and inventory accuracy
  • Update location information in the system as changes occur
  • Ensure compliance with warehouse labeling standards and best practices
  • Support warehouse organization and space utilization initiatives

Store & Distribution Center Liaison

  • Serve as a liaison between the stores and local distribution center to facilitate communication and resolve issues
  • Engage in quality control processes and programs to maintain product and service standards
  • Coordinate the merchandise donation process for HomeStore-sponsored charities and/or special projects
  • Respond to all emails and inquiries in a timely manner to support internal and external customers

Training & Collaboration

  • Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities
  • Train associates from other departments on good inventory control practices and procedures
  • Share best practices and knowledge with team members to drive continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate the companys core and growth values in performance of all job functions

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, or related field
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping
  • Proficiency with inventory management systems and warehouse management software (WMS)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and formulas
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to collaborate across departments
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic understanding of inventory control principles and cycle counting methodologies
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in a warehouse environment
  • Proficient in basic computer skills including email and system navigation

Additional Qualifications, Preferred:

  • Associates degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field
  • 2+ years of inventory control experience in retail, distribution, or furniture industry
  • Experience with SAP, Manhattan, or similar enterprise warehouse management systems
  • Forklift certification and experience operating material handling equipment
  • Knowledge of retail merchandise operations and point-of-sale systems
  • Familiarity with inventory reconciliation, variance investigation, and root cause analysis
  • Understanding of GAAP inventory accounting principles
  • Experience with cycle counting methodologies and inventory accuracy improvement techniques
  • Background in retail operations, store transfers, or multi-location inventory management
  • Lean or Six Sigma exposure with focus on process improvement

Work Environment:

This position is located in an active industrial manufacturing and distribution center with moderate to high noise levels, temperature variations, and material handling equipment in operation. The role may require extended periods of standing or walking on concrete floors and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and steel-toed boots. The fast-paced environment involves time-sensitive and safety-sensitive operations and includes a combination of office work and warehouse floor activities.

Pay:

$21.00-$23.00 + $1.00 lead pay

Schedule: M-F 8:30am-5:00pm
