Department Summary
The UNT Division of Instrumental Studies is a epicenter for learning, featuring world-renowned individual instrumental instruction, collaborative opportunities, and professional mentorship. Offering performance degrees at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels in addition to a Graduate Artist Certificate, the Instrumental Studies division allows students to specialize in string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments.
With 40 full-time faculty representing soloists and renowned ensembles from across the globe, the UNT Division of Instrumental Studies boasts a vast array of opportunities for its students. Along with their traditional classical studies, students can explore specialties such as early music, chamber music, and more. Student resources include one of the largest music libraries in the nation, access to recording services, a plethora of study-abroad partnerships, and connection to a global Alumni network.
Position Overview
Established in 2014, ISMI (formerly known as Summer String Institute) has proven to be a successful asset to the student recruitment in the College of Music. Over 46 participants have enrolled in BM, MM, and DMA degrees. ISMI also serves the music community in the Metroplex and even attracts participants from around the world.
Faculty members of the UNT International Summer Music Institute (ISMI) teach 45-minute-long one-on-one applied lessons. Each ISMI participant receives three 45-minute lessons during one ISMI session.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in music or closely related field, recommendation by UNT faculty member.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understanding of standard violin and string chamber music repertoire, with a respect to teach students at a variety of levels.
Experience advising and mentoring students within an academic setting.
Professional orchestral performance experience.
University teaching experience.
