JOB DESCRIPTION

In support of ORU’s mission and international enrollment growth goals, the International Student Success Coach — Upperclassmen serves as a consistent coach and resource for continuing residential undergraduate international students, with a primary focus on persistence, re-enrollment, degree progress, ongoing F-1 compliance, and successful navigation of ORU systems and campus life. This role partners closely with the Manager of International Student Success & First-Year Onboarding to ensure students transition well from first-year support into continued success through graduation.

RESPONSIBILITIES


International Student Success Coach

  • Establish and build relationships with assigned continuing international students, serving as a consistent coach and resource from the conclusion of first-year onboarding through graduation.
  • Support semesterly international arrival, orientation, and acclimation efforts as directed, in partnership with the Manager of International Student Success & First-Year Onboarding and the broader ISR team.
  • Assesses assigned international students and becomes familiar with their personalities, motivations, strengths, and struggles, coaching them in a manner that helps them to use their strengths to address their struggles and make targeted improvements to be successful at ORU.
  • Tracks international students’ re-enrollment activity and degree progress and advises them as to course selection and timely degree completion.
  • Assists dependent international students’ parents as needed, addressing concerns, and promoting their students’ persistence.
  • Ensures that international student and parent inquiries receive responses are sent or responded to within no more than 24-48 hours.
  • Tracks international students’ attendance and mid-term grades to allow for early intervention whenever needed.
  • Makes international students aware of academic, immigration, and emotional support resources. Connects international students directly with resources whenever possible. Follows up to ensure international students are set up to be successful; encouraging them to grow in self-efficacy.
  • Engages in re-enrollment campaigns and assists international students with processes related to their continued enrollment in the upcoming term.
  • Utilizes CRM and technology tools to report, track and communicate with students. This involves sending and responding to student messages. Ensures that communication is accurate, professional and represents the University appropriately.
  • Responsible to proactively outreach to international students to ensure progress is being made throughout and maintains robust communication structure through a variety of platforms (email, call, text, social media, etc).
  • Maintains current knowledge of university resources, policies, and procedures to be able to provide guidance and direct international students and their parents appropriately.
  • Prepares, compiles, processes, and maintains reports as required by supervisor.
  • Meets or exceeds registration and retention goals assigned by supervisor each semester.
  • Support and partner with the Peer Success Coach program as directed and appropriate.
  • Supervise assigned student workers and their work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Designated School Official

  • Serve as a Designated School Official for the University, supporting F-1 compliance advising, SEVIS updates, travel signatures, OPT-related guidance, and other immigration processes for continuing undergraduate international students.
  • Provide backup support for initial I-20 processing and related documentation as assigned.
  • Provides counsel for new and current undergraduate F-1 international students studying at the university. Principally assists undergraduate international students through providing guidance to current international students to maintain their ongoing F-1 status.
  • Maintains DSO designation and keep strong familiarity with SEVIS system and stays current with U.S. immigration laws and regulations as they pertain to F-1 students.

International Student Center Service Coordination

  • Support daily ISC operations serving international students with excellence and intentionality, including walk-in support and hospitality.
  • Coordinate international student specific service offerings, including non-immigrant tax filing, Optional Practical Training (OPT) filings, and end-of-term I-20 signature services.
  • Supervise assigned student workers, conducting training, maintaining workflows, and delegating work to ensure consistent coverage and service.
  • Maintain and follow:
    • SOPs, checklists, templates, and documentation
    • Workflow queues and case management practices to prevent missed students and ensure visibility/prioritization.

REQUIREMENTS


KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
  • Bilingual is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) strongly preferred.
  • Must meet federal eligibility requirements to serve as a Designated School Official, including U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency, as applicable.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, grammar, punctuation, and organizational skills are required.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Requires good mathematical, spelling, verbal skills organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must have an eye for detail and ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to learn quickly and use good judgment regarding policies and procedures.
  • Must have the ability to effectively deal with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintains compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality of information.
