Establishes admissions criteria for all foreign systems of education and applies criteria in the recruitment, admission and advising of international students.

Major Duties

  • Evaluates educational credentials, financial documents and English language proficiency for undergraduate and graduate applicants to the University. Evaluates individual courses for transfer credit.
  • Recruits and advises prospective foreign applicants regarding University programs of study, U.S. immigration regulations and University requirements. Generates credit evaluations by determining University course equivalency and awards transfer credits. Advises current students regarding academic, immigration, financial and personal matters.
  • Advises University academic and administrative departments, foreign government agencies and recruiting agencies in interpretation of admission standards, U.S. immigration regulations, financial and other matters.
  • Organizes and participates in international student recruiting through international travel. Collaborates with unit staff in reviewing and selecting promotional materials, including application brochures, banners and informational flyers. Follows-up with prospective student leads and provides a trip report which includes concerns and recommendations.
  • Researches foreign educational systems to establish admissions criteria for applicants.
  • Conducts presentations for the international student orientation program. Attends and participates in other University and cross-cultural programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
  • One year's relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of U.S. immigration policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of international educational systems and structures.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness.
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to meet the federal requirements to serve as a Designated School Official (for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security) and Alternate Responsible Officer (for the U.S. Department of State).

Desired Qualifications

  • International work or study experience.
  • Foreign language skills suitable for interpretation of application credentials.
  • Fluent in Spanish.
