QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A Master''s degree or higher from an accredited college or institution.
  2. A valid Massachusetts License as an elementary school principal or proof of eligibility for said license.
  3. A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher.
  4. Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  5. A proven ability to positively motivate staff, students and parents.
  6. Must possess a sense of humor.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Department may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools SUPERVISES: All personnel serving in the assigned school. JOB GOAL: To create a school climate so that all students and staff can actively participate in the pursuit of excellence in education. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
  8. Serves as the chief administrative officer of the school in the day-to-day operation of the building program.
  9. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate at the school with an emphasis on student and teacher performance.
  10. Promotes instructional practices responsive to student needs and ensures adequate and appropriate instructional support for students and staff.
  11. Leads the recruiting, screening, employment, assigning and training of new staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.
  12. Assesses all material needs of the school and its programs and prepares appropriate budgetary requests.
  13. Administers the school''s budget.
  14. Supervises and evaluates the instructional staff and Assistant Principal in the performance of their duties and makes recommendations for improvement when required.   15. Administers the school in accordance with all collective bargaining agreements, School Committee policies, administrative rules/regulations and all applicable State and Federal statutes/regulations.
  16. Provides leadership in the implementation of all curricula within the school.
  17. Chairs the Special Education Team Evaluation meetings and supervises the special education programs at the school.
  18. Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
  19. Consults with all relevant program managers, including the Director of Special Education, to plan, implement, and appropriately supervise programs within the building to enhance individual student education and development.
  20. Works with various members of the Administration on District-Wide issues such as transportation, special services, etc.
  21. Implements a Curriculum Accommodation Plan to meet the needs of diverse learners in the general education program.
  22. Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by immediate supervisors.
