Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Interim Nurse Manager for a 40-hour-per-week leadership contract in Dubuque, IA. This role oversees a Level 2 Maternal and Neonatal center, managing approximately 47 FTEs (RNs and Techs). The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with a strong clinical background in Labor & Delivery or NICU and a proven track record in interim management. This unit is known for exceptional teamwork and a "family-feel" environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Unit Leadership: Oversee daily operations for a 33-bed maternity service area, including Maternity, Nursery, and NICU units.
- Staff Management: Manage scheduling and professional development for 47 FTEs; foster a collaborative team culture.
- Clinical Oversight: Ensure safety and compliance for a Level 2 center handling 50–60 births per month, including high-risk cases (Magnesium Sulfate, Insulin drips, Pitocin).
- Emergency Readiness: Coordinate and participate in monthly emergency drills (maternal and neonatal codes).
- Strategic Support: Provide clinical clarification and support for after-hours unit needs/capacity issues.
- Administrative Collaboration: Work with the Director on unit budgeting and financial visibility.
Requirements:
- Leadership Experience: Minimum 15 months of Nurse Manager or Interim Leadership experience in a Maternity/OB setting (Supervisor-level experience is not a substitute).
- Clinical Experience: 2–3 years of specialized experience in L&D, Mother-Baby, or NICU.
- Travel Experience: Must have completed at least one prior travel contract in the last 15 months.
- Education: BSN is required; MSN is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with EPIC EMR is required.
- Licensure: Active Iowa or Compact/Multistate RN License.
- Proximity: Candidates must reside more than 90 miles from Dubuque, IA.
Schedule & Contract Details:
- Shift: Day Shift (Monday – Friday, 08:00 start).
- Hours: 40 Hours guaranteed per week.
- Call: No weekend requirements; on-call is limited to unit clarification/capacity questions.
- Holidays: Required to work 1–2 of the 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day).
- Orientation: 16 hours of NBO provided.
