Interim Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources

Background

Eastern Suffolk BOCES, a Middle States accredited, intermediate educational agency, is one of the largest BOCES in the New York State system of regional educational service providers. Eastern Suffolk BOCES serves a workforce of more than 4,000 full-time and part-time employees, a budget of over $550 million, provides special education and career education programs, as well as shared management services, educational support services, and technology services to 51 component school districts within the region.

This is a demanding senior leadership position in a complex agency, whose role is to assure the highest quality of Human Resources practices throughout the Agency. The Interim Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources will be responsible for:

  • Engaging all stakeholders to develop and implement successful systems and processes
  • Collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate programs and monitor progress over time for reflection and action by stakeholders
  • Advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the context of human resources and in line with the Agency's vision, mission, and goals

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Implement the action plans within the Agency's Strategic Plan
  • Build and create a welcoming and affirming working environment
  • Lead the management of nine collective bargaining agreements
  • Organize the continued development of hiring processes that recruit and retain a diverse workforce
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal departments as well as a broad set of other internal and external partners
  • Provide regional leadership for human resource leaders in component school districts

Qualifications

Basic qualifications should include:

  • NYS SDA/SDL Certification
  • A minimum of three years as a Central Office administrator, preferably in Human Resources
  • Personal qualities of integrity, honesty, credibility, and dedication to the mission of ESBOCES
  • Proven ability to create and sustain a culture of collaboration and empowerment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present to large audiences of various internal and external stakeholder groups, with an understanding of adult learning
  • Knowledge of education law, labor law, and the Civil Service system
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential records and information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with negotiations and labor management
  • Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) Certification
  • Certificate or Micro-Credential related to training in diversity, equity, and inclusion
