Assistant Controller / Senior Accountant (Contract)
A well-established, privately held company in the hospitality industry in the greater Chattanooga area is seeking a Temporary Assistant Controller or experienced Senior Accountant to support its accounting operations during a transition. This is a fully onsite position based in Chattanooga, TN.
This role will partner closely with the Controller and play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial processes while supporting critical accounting functions and month-end close activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and coordinate daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and general ledger activities
- Assist in month-end close, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting
- Review accounting transactions and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and company policies
- Contribute to audit preparation and assist with responding to auditor requests
- Provide oversight or coordination of accounting workflows and processes to improve efficiency
- Partner with the Controller to support process improvements and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial data across multiple functional areas
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience required
- Experience supporting or leading accounting workflows and providing technical guidance preferred
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics / Great Plains is highly preferred
- Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables and LOOKUP functions
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
