Job Summary

Math 6th grade position - interim position (Aug 2026- March 2027)

University School, located on the ETSU main campus is accepting applications for an interim 6th grade math and science teacher/instructor. The position involves curriculum integration and the ability to teach multi-level classes for students in grades 6. Candidates must be able to demonstrate effective teaching in a year-round public K-12 laboratory school setting.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Prepare daily lesson plans to meet the Tennessee State Standards for each course taught.
  • Grade student work and provide feedback to students and parents.
  • Update grades in Powerschool
  • Take attendance of the students in the classroom.
  • Instruct the students using daily lesson plan and materials prepared for the day. Maintain a safe and orderly classroom.
  • Report incidents or concerns to supervisors promptly.
  • Uphold professionalism in all communications and recordkeeping. Maintain confidentiality of all student information.

Minimum Qualification

  • Candidates must have or be eligible to receive a Tennessee Educator License in at least ONE of the following areas:
  • Elementary K-8, 1-8, K-6, 1-6, or K-5
  • Middle Grades 4-8
  • Math 6-8, 6-10, 6-12, or 7-12
  • Science 6-8, 6-10, 6-10, or 7-12

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master Degree in Math, Science or teaching preferred.
  • Candidates must be able to show documentation of successful teaching experience.

Physical Demands

  • Physical demand will vary depending on the grade level where substituting. Work requires supervision of students while walking or sitting in the classroom. With younger grade levels, work may require sitting on the floor/rug or at small tables with the students.
  • Frequent use of standard classroom equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 30 lbs may be required.
