Job Description

Hilo Benioff Medical Center is seeking motivated Registered Nurses to join our Critical Care Training Program. This unique opportunity provides specialized training and mentorship designed to prepare nurses for practice in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), equipping them with the advanced clinical skills needed to care for critically ill patients while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Monitor patient conditions, administer medications and treatments, and accurately document assessments, interventions, and responses to care.
  • Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and support staff to coordinate comprehensive patient care and ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Participate in patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment plans, medications, and discharge planning.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and assist with critical interventions, procedures, and advanced patient monitoring.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, and quality standards while fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and excellence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Experience

  • Minimum six (6) months of professional nursing experience.

Certification

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one (1) month of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six (6) months of ICU start date.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within six (6) months of ICU start date.

Licensure

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Hawaii.

  • Strong interest in critical care and emergency nursing.
  • Excellent assessment, critical thinking, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment while maintaining compassionate, patient-centered care.

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.  The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
