General Position Summary: The Integrated ESL and Civics Instructor provides fully online English language instruction that integrates English literacy, civics education, citizenship preparation, and workforce readiness. The instructor helps students strengthen English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while developing knowledge of U.S. civics, civic participation, and workplace expectations. Instruction is delivered in an online learning environment using digital platforms and instructional technology. The instructor works with students to identify potential barriers to participation and success and supports students through referrals, resources, and guidance that encourage persistence and goal completion. Instruction is synchronous online activities designed to meet academic, civic, and workforce-readiness needs.

Supervisor: Director of Adult Education

Physical Demands: Lift up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment: Frequent interaction with staff, students, and the public; Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, and bending.

Starting Pay: $25 per hour; 7 hours per week

Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays (4:30 pm to 8 pm)

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited educational institution
  • Two years of teaching experience
  • Bilingual - English & Spanish
  • Online Teaching Experience
  • Satisfactory background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, ESL, TESOL, or a related field
  • Experience with adult learners over the age of 18
  • Experience teaching ESL civics, citizenship preparation, or workforce readiness

Job Duties and Other Information

Essential Functions:

  • Utilize innovative, effective, and equitable teaching techniques to deliver online ESL instruction aligned with civics and workforce preparation.
  • Provide online orientation, intake support, and academic assessments for ESL students.
  • Deliver synchronous instruction through the program's approved instructional technologies.
  • Ensure student records and documentation are accurate and complete within required data systems.
  • Participate in developing, revising, and monitoring the implementation of curriculum for ESL civics, citizenship preparation, and workforce readiness.
  • Assess student progress using approved assessments and analyze results to support instructional improvement.
  • Provide feedback, guidance, and direct instruction using digital tools and learning platforms.
  • Meet virtually with students to determine English proficiency levels, career interests, and educational or training goals.
  • Guide students through career exploration activities and assist in developing individualized education and employment plans.
  • Coordinate supports that assist students with participation in online learning and refer students to community partners when appropriate.
  • Collect and report required program data to support monitoring, accountability, and program improvement.
  • Meet established deadlines for documentation, reporting, and student follow-up.
  • Attend virtual staff meetings, professional development activities, and curriculum development sessions.
  • Maintain awareness of current research, best practices, and technologies related to ESL instruction, online learning, and adult education.
  • Participate in recruitment and outreach activities that support student enrollment.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission of River Parishes Community College.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education.
