Position: Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician: Transplant Clinic

Department: Social Services

Schedule: Part Time, 20 Hours, SEIU

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) Services within the Department of Psychiatry, the IBH Clinician for transplant clinic will be responsible for the direct provision of behavioral health services to the clinic. BMC Kidney Transplant at BMC is a multidisciplinary clinical team, devoted to improving patient's quality of life through organ transplantation. The living kidney donor program has performed more than 350 living donor transplants and actively works to reduce racial disparities in living donor kidney donation. The clinician will serve as member of the multidisciplinary Kidney Transplant Clinic team and collaborate to ensure the behavioral health needs of the patients are met. The IBH transplant clinician will complete pre transplant diagnostic and biopsychsocial assessments required per United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) for transplant candidates and donors. IBH clinician will deliver targeted evidence based treatment focused on behavioral health needs pre and post surgery for transplant candidates and donors-e.g. difficulties with self-management, health behavior changes, depression, anxiety, transplant-related distress. The clinician will also provide education/training regarding behavioral health conditions and treatment to Kidney Transplant clinic providers and staff. This position is part time (20 hours) and flexible hybrid.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties/Knowledge
  • Previous experience in Integrated Behavioral Health or Medical Setting preferred.
  • Previous experience working with transplant preferred
  • Preference for independently licensure
  • Requires level of knowledge of Social Work process and community resources and agencies in relation to health, illness, and disability, and social determinants of health
  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with various healthcare professionals, to develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of racial and ethnic populations. Cultural humility is very important.
  • Bicultural/Bilingual competency a plus.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Computer literacy with ability to use standard word processing, spreadsheet programs and e-mail (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers.

Must be comfortable in a fast paced and dynamic work environment (sense of humor is valued).

Other responsibilities will include:
  • Utilizing the hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the hospital's mission.
  • Attendance at IBH and Psychiatry meetings and in-service education program offerings through the Department of Psychiatry
  • Obtaining continuing education as necessary to maintain licensure
  • Attendance at transplant clinic meetings as indicated
  • Following established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality according to hospital policy
  • Practicing professional discretion when determining the inclusion of any patient information into medical record or other documentation
  • Complying with departmental, regulatory, and professional requirements for documentation recording, and data collection

Maintaining a complete understanding of emergency procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Requires Master's Degree from an accredited school of Social Work or school of Mental Health Counseling or related field as determined by the Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions or National Certified Counselor (NCC) preparing for licensure as an LMHC

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Requires a current Massachusetts Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).For LCSW, can be obtained within six months of employment. For Pre-LMHC, can be National Certified Counselor (NCC) preparing for licensure as an LMHC
