PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Insurance Specialist is responsible in explaining and enrolling employees in group health, life and dental program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

TEA certification requirements

High School Graduate or GED

Experience in reconciliation and/or payroll and/or group insurance administration

Preferred:

At least 15 college hours in accounting with a "C" or above average

Three years of experience in reconciliation and/or group insurance administration

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Enrolls employees in group health, life, and dental program.
  • Monthly reconciliation of group health, life and dental program and prompt payment to the company.
  • Ability to use electronic spreadsheet to help in reconciliation process.
  • Knowledge of ECISD insurance programs for implementation and interpretation to employees of district.
  • Responsible for acquiring proper documentation for enrollment of group insurance plan for new employees and employees changing coverage.
  • Assists with annual open enrollment, presentations and updated benefit booklet.
  • Ability to recognize discrepancies in insurance records, research and analyze problem and present a possible solution.
  • Knowledge of Social Security and IRS regulations as it pertains to the payroll process.
  • Knowledge of TRS pension plan, 403b and 457 plans and Affordable Care Act ACA reporting.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to employees in a manner understandable to employees.
  • Acts as a liaison between insurance company and employee or provider and employee to solve employee's problems when necessary.
  • Assists with monthly Insurance Committee Meeting preparation of information.
  • Administration of retiree group payments and recording of payments.
  • Sets up new employees record on payroll system.
  • Reviews all insurance deductions before payroll is run.
  • Makes corrections to employee insurance as determined by monthly reconciliation.
  • Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
