Job Summary
McLaurin Law, PLLC is seeking a Texas-licensed Construction Litigation Attorney to handle plaintiff-side construction and related commercial disputes from inception through resolution. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of litigation experience, including at least 3 years focused on construction litigation, and can independently manage sophisticated matters involving construction defects, construction contract disputes, lien issues, and risk-transfer issues. Candidates with meaningful insurance-related experience - particularly first-party property, third-party coverage, or risk-transfer issues arising from construction matters are strongly preferred.
Qualifications - Insurance & Construction Litigation Attorney
Required
Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
At least 5 years of civil litigation experience.
At least 3 years of substantive construction litigation experience, including motion practice, written discovery, depositions, and case strategy.
Experience handling disputes involving construction defects, contract claims, lien issues, and/or related commercial litigation.
Strong legal writing, deposition, and courtroom advocacy skills.
Ability to manage a caseload with a high degree of ownership, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
Experience practicing in Texas state court; trial experience in Texas is strongly valued.
Preferred
3+ years of experience with insurance-related construction disputes, risk-transfer issues, additional insured issues, indemnity disputes, or first-party property matters.
Experience taking or defending expert and corporate representative depositions.
Meaningful mediation, hearing, and trial experience.
Background working in construction, commercial, or coverage-focused practice.
Familiarity with technology-driven litigation workflows and case management systems.
Familiarity and comfort responsibly using AI Systems.
Experience with Clio case management products.
Experience billing clients.
Responsibilities - Insurance & Construction Litigation Attorney
Manage construction litigation matters from pre-suit investigation through settlement, trial, or other resolution.
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other litigation papers.
Develop and execute case strategy in collaboration with firm leadership and litigation support staff.
Take and defend depositions, including expert and corporate representative depositions.
Handle mediations, hearings, court appearances, and trial preparation.
Analyze contracts, project documents, insurance materials, and damages evidence relevant to construction disputes.
Work closely with experts, clients, and internal team members to move cases forward efficiently and effectively.
Use firm systems and technology to improve case management, organization, and litigation execution.
Maintain minimum billable hour productivity standards at 32.5 case hours per week.
Willing to develop their own book of business and to be open to learning what is necessary to do so.
