Description

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) is seeking a detail-oriented Instrumentation Technician to join our research team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various scientific instruments and data acquisition systems used in our state-of-the-art testing labs. Your work will support critical research aimed at improving the resilience of homes and businesses against severe weather events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and calibrate instrumentation equipment used in laboratory and field test environments.
  • Monitor and ensure the proper functioning of data acquisition systems and sensors.
  • Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation issues promptly to avoid disruptions in research activities.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to develop and implement new instrumentation solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, calibration, and inspection activities.
  • Assist in data collection and preliminary analysis as needed to support research projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols during all instrumentation activities.


Requirements
  • Bachelors degree or higher in instrumentation technology, electronics, engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience with installation, calibration, and maintenance of scientific instruments and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to instrumentation and electronics.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition software and instrumentation hardware.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
