Programs and maintains electrical controls, instrumentation, and equipment associated with utility plant or wellfield operations.

Essential Functions

  • Performs specialized electrical work associated with installation, programming, and repair of equipment/machinery at wastewater treatment plants, wastewater collection facilities, off-site operations, and related facilities.
  • Installs, programs, calibrates, and/or repairs a variety of instrumentation and electronic equipment at utility plants and related facilities, which may include variable frequency drives, flow meters, transducers, generators, transfer switches, programmable logic controls, integrated controls, motor control panels, electrical services, branch circuits, sub-feeders, lift station panels, data flow systems, or antennas.
  • Operates central telemetry computer to program, monitor, and control lift stations; troubleshoots telemetry computer problems; troubleshoots lift stations; programs lift station configuration; designs and builds electrical controls; builds screens and control logic; generates trend data and reports; modifies configuration of external hardware; calculates electrical loads and hydraulics on lift stations.
  • Reviews, oversees, and inspects all projects with electrical controls.
  • Assesses systems of other municipalities to set guidelines for Collier County.
  • Performs installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical/electronic equipment and mechanical equipment; builds, installs, and repairs equipment; repairs motors and meters; troubleshoots flow/plumbing problems; installs drive parts; installs and repairs pumps; welds parts and fabricates metal components; wires control panels; repairs electrical/electronic equipment; performs preventive maintenance work according to schedule; assists with trenching for installation and repair of conduits; assists in installing pump cords and floats.
  • Operates a computer to program information and to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, control system, telemetry system, diagnostics, or other computer programs.
  • Operates various equipment and tools associated with work activities, which may include a utility truck, boom truck, generator, hydraulic punch, drill machine, welder, drill, pickax, post hole digger, shovel, mechanic tools, electrical tools, diagnostic instruments, or hand tools.
  • Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, building, equipment and tools in operable condition; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
  • Monitors inventory levels of equipment, tools, parts, and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials.
  • Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
  • Communicates with supervisor, employees, other Divisions, engineers, contractors, utility companies, vendors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Maintains an awareness of new technologies, methods, trends, and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years of related experience.
  • Fingerprinting required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician License is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
  • Must possess a Class 3 Water Distribution Systems Operator License or obtain within eighteen (18) months from date of hire.

Supplemental information

Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.

Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County's Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
