The Department of Mass Communications invites applications for a Senior Media Specialist. The selected individual will be responsible for supervising the Media Production Specialist, Media facilities and students, coordinating, supervising, and supporting department production projects, faculty, and student media activities.

Primary responsibilities include:

Teaching two courses per semester not limited to (TV I and II and Sound I and II) Recruiting students both majors and non-majors for productions Collaborate and coordinate with University, Community, and Industry partners (i.e. NBCU, School District etc.) Help develop opportunities for work-based learning and pathways for industry experience Conduct academic assessments for developing or improvement of Media Production Coordinating and supervising the Media Production Specialist, including broadcast and non-broadcast content Producing and Coordinating sports broadcasting coverage in collaboration with Athletics and live event productions on campus Producing one to two major productions on campus (i.e. Claflin Today Show, Orangeburg Inside Out, etc.) Supervise a centralized equipment checkout system for Mass Communication Equipment Performing other duties as assigned within the scope of the position

Minimum qualifications are the MA or MS in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Arts, Digital media, Film, Television Production, related occupational field. A minimum of three to five years of professional experience involving:

Leadership and ethical experiences that could be gained by working in a television, radio, multimedia, or video production environment Computer Management - hardware and software troubleshooting procedures, for desktop support with an emphasis on Macs Preferred candidate will have a blend of experience utilizing live, streaming and pre-recorded techniques with documented hours in media and production courses. Knowledge of multi-media and convergence equipment and software such as Adobe Creative Suites software, web design, social media, TriCaster, video and video Editing Software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Audition, and ProTools are required. Video and audio production experience is a must. Experience working with students is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Technical Knowledge

Expertise in advanced video production techniques, aesthetics, and theory for live and recorded programs. Proficient with broadcast-quality equipment, digital and analog signal flow, and editing/graphic systems. Knowledge of FCC regulations, broadcast transmission, and wireless frequency policies. Understanding of multiple sports, their rules, and basic strategies. Thorough knowledge of system integration, communications network design, and technology development methodologies. Familiarity with video and audio codecs, media formats, and digital compression standards. Working knowledge of media production software and operating systems (Windows, SQL Server, Adobe, Macromedia, AMX, etc.).

Technical Skills

Proficient in configuration, operation, and troubleshooting of professional broadcast and production equipment. Skilled in TriCaster, routing systems, synchronizers, cameras, lighting, audio mixers, and nonlinear editing systems. Experienced in crewing, producing, and directing live broadcasts.

Leadership and Interpersonal Skills

Demonstrated leadership and organization skills in broadcast production teams. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with technical staff, managers, and diverse user groups. Effective at explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Skilled in preparing documentation, training users, and resolving complex technical challenges.

Analytical and Organizational Abilities

Strong logical reasoning, problem-solving, and data analysis capabilities. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results. Self-motivated with initiative to take and complete assignments independently or collaboratively. Excellent time management and adaptability under pressure or in challenging environments.
