  • Supervises residents and medical students in a clinical setting
  • Provides performance evaluations, skill testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Participates in resident and faculty recruitment
  • Attends and participates in morbidity-mortality and journal clubs
  • Provides patient care in the Emergency Department
  • Serves as medical control physician for EI Paso EMS while on duty in the Emergency Department
  • Participates in national emergency medicine societies such as ACEP, SAEM, AAEM
  • Participates in medical research projects relating to emergency medicine
  • Participates in medical school and hospital committees
  • Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship
  • Assists the Department Chair with the implementation of departmental policies and monitoring staffing effectiveness
  • Participates in chart audits and other clinical performance improvement efforts
  • Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance such as committee work, emergency medicine professional organizations, and other administrative duties

  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine for the rank of assistant professor or higher
  • Established or emerging regional or national reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher
  • Knowledge of Medical Spanish
