Position/Application Information

McNeese State University invites applicants for the position of Instructor of Mathematical Sciences. This is a full-time, 9-month, unclassified, non-tenure-track position. This appointment begins August (Fall) 2026.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

The selected candidate for this position will be responsible for the following:

  • Preparing and teaching a variety of general education mathematics courses. The standard course load is 15 hours per semester.
  • Being of service to the department, university, and broader community
  • Participate in departmental meetings, serve on committees (e.g., curriculum committee, hiring committee), and contribute to program development and evaluation.
  • Engage in outreach and recruitment activities to promote mathematics as an educational pathway
  • Effectively balance responsibilities to fulfill teaching, scholarly activity, and service obligations.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and foster a positive academic environment.

Required/Preferred Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in an area of the mathematical sciences or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics
  • Excellent teaching, strong communications skills, and potential for excellence in service to the department.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience teaching at the university level
  • Experience with multiple modes of instructional delivery (face-to-face, hybrid, online)
  • Participation in professional organizations (e.g., AMS, MAA, SIAM) and a willingness to contribute to the broader mathematical community.
