Job Summary: The College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities (CoSSAH) at Harris-Stowe State University is seeking an energetic full-time Instructor of Art/Art History. A Master of Arts (MA) in Studio Art, Creative Artistry, or Art History is required; however, a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) is preferred. A strong candidate will have proficiency in student engagement through high-impact pedagogy that conveys the imperative of art in society, historically and presently. All candidates should be willing to demonstrate their commitment to working with undergraduate students in a minority-serving institution and possess a proficiency in teaching art in a culturally competent manner.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, maintain, and distribute course syllabi containing learning objectives (based on several levels of Bloom's Taxonomy), course requirements, instructor contact, and other institutional and accreditation requirements. • Prepare and deliver literature-driven instruction on art history and theory. • Perform instructional art demonstrations with technical proficiency. • Conducts appropriate evaluations of students performances and assigns grades based on such evaluations. • Maintains records of students grades and attendance according to University requirements. • Provides access to students through regular office hours and involvement on campus. • Provides academic and career advisement and assistance to students as appropriate. • Maintains professional skills and subject expertise through study and involvement in professional organizations.
Qualifications & Expectations:
• A Master of Arts (MA) in Studio Art, Creative Artistry, or Art History. A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) is preferred. • Experience and credentials for online education, including the imperative of regular and substantive interactions (RSI). • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Canvas, Blackboard, or a similar online learning platform. • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and culturally competent academic environment.
