Carteret Community College is accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month Associate Degree Nursing Instructor. Position will be open until filled. Duties include:

  • Provide instruction to students with a faculty workload consistent with full time instructor expectations.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing appropriate, meaningful instructional activities.
  • Adhere to departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers approved competencies.
  • Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor in supervision of students as applicable.
  • Request supplies and materials for courses and recommend appropriate equipment or technology.
  • Maintain required college records including (but not limited to) attendance, grades, and learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance and learning outcomes using methods appropriate to the courses.
  • Participate in data gathering, interpretation, and evaluation activities.
  • Provide assistance to advisees and maintain proficiency in program requirements of advisees.
  • Participate in department, division, and college-wide advising activities and training.
  • Advise in the MAPS center during registration periods.
  • Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
  • Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings.
  • Assist in planning and conducting advisory committee meetings.
  • Participate in on-campus professional development activities.
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position.
  • Serve on committees as required.
  • Participate in college-wide activities.
  • Follow guidelines established by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • Professional development is encouraged to develop and maintain current expertise in clinical practice, as well as teaching responsibilities, especially in the areas of student assessment and evaluation, teaching/instructional strategies, and diversity, equity, and/or inclusion (DEI).

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's (BSN) or Master's degree with a major in nursing (MSN). Hold a graduate degree from an accredited institution or obtain a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution within five years of initial full-time employment - Master's degree with a major in nursing (MSN) preferred. Education concentration preferred, however, candidates with a BSN or MSN with a different concentration must provide evidence of one of the following prior to or within the first three years of employment:

  • Completion of 45 contact hours of continuing education courses in the areas of curriculum development and implementation, adult learning theory, teaching-learning principles, assessment and evaluation;
  • Completion of a certificate program in nursing education;
  • Nine semester hours of education course-work;
  • Obtain national certification in nursing education; or
  • Provide documentation of successful completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board.

Criteria for approval include content in the faculty role within the curriculum implementation, objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for the identified student population, and expectations of student and faculty performance.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS: Minimum of two years of clinical nursing practice as a Registered Nurse; Hold a valid NC driver's license; Have current immunizations; Computer literate; teaching and administrative experience leading to this level of responsibility. Demonstration of skills in the areas of communication, organization, and managing multiple priorities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community groups, and others; demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative team environment; display respect for social, cultural, spiritual, and intellectual diversity. Ability to operate basic computer applications and utilize Microsoft office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Meet essential cognitive, sensory, affective & psychomotor performance requirements & functions

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: Hold a current unrestricted license as an RN to practice in North Carolina; Hold current certification in adult and child CPR (AHA Healthcare Provider Course)

WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to accommodate a flexible working schedule. Limited travel within service area. Overnight travel for clinical and professional meetings may be required. Evening and weekend clinical hours may be required.

  • Twelve (12) sick days per year (10, if a 10-mont faculty member) which is cumulative indefinitely. Unused accrued sick leave can be converted to service credit for retirement
  • Staff receive fourteen (14) vacation days per year which increases as the length of service increases and accumulates year-to-year. Faculty do not receive vacation leave, rather, they have. on average, 20 scheduled, paid non-instructional days built into the academic calendar.
  • Faculty receive paid breaks throughout the academic year, including a Spring Break, Fall Break, and holiday break in December
  • Longevity pay yearly (based on length of service beginning 10 years and up)

  • Low-cost State Health Plan - employee only monthly premium for the Standard (70/30) Plan is based on salary band, and ranges from $35 per month to $80 per month.
