Essential Role Responsibilities ------------------------------

### Position Overview

We are looking for two full-time Mathematics Faculty Members who will excel in delivering engaging and effective mathematics instruction for transitional support courses, gateway courses, and upper-level math courses.

### Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of mathematics courses, including transitional support courses, college-level mathematics courses, and statistics.
  • Develop and implement engaging and effective instructional materials and strategies for a variety of course modalities and term lengths.
  • Utilize education technology effectively, including Learning Management Systems (LMS), online course development tools, graphing calculators, and free-low-cost software programs.
  • Develop formative and summative assessments.
  • Engage in curriculum development and assessment processes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance educational practices and support student success.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Participate in meetings, committee work, professional development activities, college-wide initiatives, and community outreach activities.
  • Cultivate and maintain constructive and supportive relationships with students, staff, and faculty members.
  • Fulfill these and other responsibilities of full-time faculty in accordance with collective bargaining agreement and college policies.

Requirements ------------

### Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of a masters degree in mathematics, statistics, or a related STEM field from a regionally accredited college or university with 18 credit hours of graduate-level mathematics and/or statistics.
  • A minimum of one year of full-time equivalent mathematics teaching experience with a diverse student population at the community college level.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship.

### Preferred Experience

  • Masters degree or higher in Mathematics or Statistics and coursework in education.
  • At least three years of outstanding full-time equivalent mathematics teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Ability to teach statistics, plus other transitional support courses and college-level courses in mathematics.
  • Experience with course development, including incorporating and curating OER materials.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Evidence of leadership experience and contributions to departmental or institutional initiatives.
  • Proficiency in using education technology.

Howard Community College offers competitive salaries, excellent medical and dental benefits, tuition reimbursement, and paid leave programs. As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options:

  • The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution.
  • The ORP (403b), with a 7.25% employer contribution only.

Employees in positions that do not require a bachelors degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelors degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelors degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
