Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.
Under general supervision, this individual will develop, prepare and teach courses within the department. Faculty will also be responsible for advising and recruiting students and collaborating with business and industry partners to provide necessary training and education. The faculty member must be able to demonstrate correct operation and supervise operation, in all or most of the following areas listed: pneumatics, hydraulic and electric power tools; engine diagnostics, repair and operation; heavy equipment repair & operation on all vehicular systems. Individual must understand and work within NATEF standards.

Specific Departmental Requirements:
Individual must be able to safely operate all vehicles and equipment.
Must have or be able to obtain a CDL license within 30 days
Physical Demands
Requires teaching evening classes
Position may require standing for extended periods of time, stooping, walking, climbing, and bending to supervise students in confined areas inside, underneath, and on top of vehicles, as well as on elevated work stands and platforms.
Exposure to hazardous materials is possible and will require safe handling, use and disposal. Some classes require using flammable and/or inert high pressure gases, and using high pressure hydraulic equipment.
Lifting, and the positioning of heavy equipment in preparation for classes and labs is required.
Work may be required in an environment that varies from hot to cold (seasonal), which can be both noisy and dusty, and require standing for lengthy periods.
Student projects may have to be supervised in confined areas underneath trucks and within the engine compartment of medium and large trucks.
The instructor must be able to demonstrate and supervise driving and maneuvering of department vehicles to verify completion of repairs.
Individual should be capable of demonstrating all items on the NATEF task list including the operation of pneumatic and electric power tools, alignment machines, diagnostics equipment, and a forklift.
Conduct of labs requires supervision of up to 20 students in a large industrial shop and/or specialized labs as they perform required projects.
