The Head and Neck/Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery division of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is seeking a Non-Physician Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) for the management and continuity of care of inpatient and outpatient head and neck cancer and complex reconstruction patients.

The responsibilities of this position will include providing inpatient care for these patients, participation in the operating room, assisting in post-hospital care arrangements and preoperative and postoperative outpatient care. These responsibilities will occur during normal work hours of 8am - 4pm. It will also be the responsibility of the NPP to establish and staff a weekly Head and Neck Cancer Survivorship Clinic for patients no longer requiring acute surgical management.

Essential Functions:

Inpatient care (50%) • Writing postoperative orders • Preparing patient for transport to next level of care • Dressing wounds • Closing wounds • Assisting in surgery • Scrubbing for surgery • Preparing patient for surgery • Assist in surgical procedures as indicated • Coordinate post-hospital care with social services as needed • Reports to supervising physician or fellows of patient events or significant test findings

Assist in wound care and dressing changes Assist in following up on testing/consultations Assist in scheduling patient testing/consultations Assist in writing patient orders Assist in implementing daily plan of care Assist in formulating daily plan of care Assess patient needs Assess status of patient progress Attends morning and afternoon rounds

Outpatient Care (25%)

Attends outpatient clinics when cancer/reconstruction patients are seen. Assists in ordering and scheduling preoperative testing and/or consultations Assists in providing postoperative care and arranging adjuvant therapy Assist physicians, fellows and residents in outpatient procedures

Development of a Survivorship Clinic:

Provide policies and procedures for this clinic Function as the primary health care provider in this clinic Order appropriate testing for cancer surveillance Schedule patients for the appropriate interval for surveillance Refer patients back to supervising physicians for clinically questionable or suspicious findings Provide appropriate billing and coding documentation

Administrative (10%)

Acts as primary team member for all head and neck cancer and reconstructive patients Performs appropriate documentation in the electronic health record Monitors clinic and OR schedules for upcoming patient encounters Acts as primary liaison for inpatients and survivorship patients

Educational (10%)

Assist in planning of patient care including physiological, psychosocial and economic aspects with the formation of short-term and long-term goals Assist in the formation, preparation and implementation of written policies pertaining to head and neck cancer and reconstructive patients in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Provide patient education of the disease process, changes required of the patient's lifestyle, explanation of diagnostic testing and the use of prescribed medications

Other Functions (5%)

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.
