Instructor/Assistant Professor of Instrumental Music (Fall 2026)

The Music Department is responsible for the effective development and deliver of the department's curriculum and advising of department majors. The department focuses on quality teaching and student-centered learning. The candidate must possess the ability to recruit talented major and non-major instrumental students to the music program and develop relationships with music educators throughout the region.

Essential Functions

  • Support the mission, vision, and values of Bethel College
  • Direct Wind Ensemble and Thresher Sound (indoor athletic/marching band)
  • Teach conducting, music education methods, and techniques courses
  • Instruction in the areas, such as music technology or GE courses, if that is the candidate's strength and interest
  • Additional non-teaching duties include recruiting, advising, participation in faculty governance, and supervising and mentoring students in the college's Employment Experiences program
  • Mandatory reporter relating to Title IX and the Bethel College Equal Opportunity, Harassment, and Non-Discrimination Policy and Procedures
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position
  • Comply with Bethel College policies and procedures

Education and/or Experience

  • MM or MMEd required
  • DMA or Ph.D. in music preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading instrumental ensembles
  • Qualifications to teach music education courses

Required Qualifications

  • Interest in teaching and working with liberal arts students is required
  • A history of successful recruiting at the college level
  • Teaching experience in courses which support the music major are preferred
