Description
The Instructor, Academic English Language Learner (ELL), is responsible for teaching credit English Language Learner courses that support multilingual students in developing the English language proficiency and academic skills necessary for success in college coursework, employment, and community engagement. Responsibilities include planning and delivering high-quality instruction, assessing student learning, supporting multilingual students transition into college-level coursework, maintaining a supportive and inclusive learning environment, participating in curriculum development and continuous improvement efforts. Faculty are expected to collaborate with colleagues, contribute to student success initiatives, and support the mission of Indian Hills Community College.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Education, English, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Communications, or a related field required; masters degree preferred.
- Two years of teaching experience preferred.
- Experience teaching English language learners or multilingual students preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to student learning and success.
- Ability to teach students from diverse cultural, educational, and linguistic backgrounds.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
Work Performed
- Teach assigned credit English Language Learner courses using instructional practices that promote student engagement, language acquisition, and academic success.
- Develop and maintain course materials, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with course outcomes.
- Evaluate student learning and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that values diverse cultures, languages, and experiences.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and other required instructional records.
- Hold regular office hours and provide academic support to students outside of class.
- Participate in curriculum review, assessment of student learning, and continuous improvement activities.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support multilingual students transitioning into college-level coursework.
- Participate in department meetings, college committees, professional development, and other institutional service activities.
- Assist with student orientation, placement, advising, and retention efforts as assigned.
- Develop contextualized or discipline-specific English language curriculum as needed to support academic and workforce programs.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
