Job Summary

Responsible for instructional facilitation of assigned courses, develop curriculum and instructional materials, evaluate student success, assess program effectiveness, and recommend and implement changes. Serve all students as a TRUE Learning Community by promoting student success through student learning, student development, and student retention.

Teaching 2 evenings (5:30-8:30 pm) per week will be required

Office will be located at CACs Superstition Mountain Campus

Responsibilities

  • Provide ESOL instruction to students in a group or on an individual basis at various locations. Provide information to students on program requirements. Evaluate students' progress, and assess learning outcomes.
  • Provide instructional support and coaching to adjunct faculty, including the development and presentation of professional development learning opportunities. Lead a cohort of part-time instructors; travel to other campuses/sites for teacher meetings and observations; meet with cohort members individually and/or in small groups on a regular basis; ensure cohort members are using the ADE Adult Education Content and Teacher Standards when preparing lessons, assist as needed.
  • Assist with student recruitment, orientation, assessment, data collection and retention and transition into CAC certificate or degree programs.
  • Develop course outlines, syllabus, and course materials that promote learning and fulfill the program objectives. Maintain students' records and grades; complete and return required reports to the appropriate office by due date. Share responsibility for maintaining the facilities and equipment in area utilized.
  • Communicate with students as appropriate. This may include email, online discussions, virtual chats within the Learning Management System, instant messaging (IM), telephone and/or face-to-face consultations to provide frequent feedback. Refer students to appropriate college and community services when needed.
  • Prepare and participate in the program review process in accordance with the stated policies and procedures when required. Participate in program improvement initiatives and collaborate with program director and other staff in researching and preparing all ADE required reports and plans.
  • Participate in faculty development activities to update knowledge of the subject area and to remain current in the use of alternative teaching techniques and appropriate instructional technology. Represent the college and/or the program on a variety of internal and external committees for the college and community.

Marginal Functions:

The position may perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position to include participating in committee assignments and the recruitment and retention of students.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPEREINCE: Bachelor's Degree in specified field related to the assigned area and Three (3) years related experience - or - in special circumstances a Master's Degree and one (1) year related experience.

Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification. The level the background verification for this position is: Standard level.

  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of learning and/or teaching students and staff.
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices used in conducting research, in the use of the internet as a tool, and in report preparation.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices in a variety of teaching techniques and the use of technology in instruction.
  • Knowledge of techniques and methodologies of student assessment.
  • Knowledge and skill in developing instructional programs, planning, evaluation, and review with the ability to produce new, imaginative, or innovative solutions different from traditional approaches.
  • Knowledge and skill in operating a variety of multimedia equipment, computer systems, hardware, and relevant software applications.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with staff, community leaders, faculty, students, and the public. Skill working in a diverse multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10 lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other facilities due to long periods of standing, sitting, and repetitive motion.

This level of interpersonal skill is required in jobs which regularly interact with others with the organization or with the public. May provide work direction or function as a lead position providing work assignments, monitoring and give feedback to other employees. Time is required for interaction.

Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
