As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Instructional Designer for Online Programs, who will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by managing course development and design processes, evaluating course quality and effectiveness, and applying evidence-based instructional design principles and best practices related to teaching and learning in a university setting.
The Instructional Designer collaborates with the Executive Director of Innovation, Academic Innovation Team staff, online faculty, and campus partners to support the development of high-quality online learning experiences. This position manages a portfolio of online course development projects, provides consultations and training sessions to faculty and staff, conducts course reviews, and documents course development activities and other services provided. The Instructional Designer also contributes to initiatives that enhance student engagement, academic excellence, and innovation in online education. The target start date is 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Manage and supervise the design and review of high-quality online courses; Design, develop, and implement program’s online course templates, guidelines, and initiatives.
  • Conduct annual reviews of online courses to ensure high-quality design and rigor calculators.
  • Establish consistent quality standards, look and feel, template design, and user.
  • Ability to translate complex academic content into engaging digital media experiences.
  • Manage, supervise, and assist in training faculty to design and facilitate courses; Work with staff, the online faculty teams, subject matter experts, and other university professionals to ensure rigorous content and to include effective instructional practices.
  • Develop high-quality instructional videos, podcasts, animations, graphics, and multimedia learning assets for online and hybrid courses.
  • Provide instructional support, as needed and within capacity, to other colleges at Marian University.
  • Provide individual consultations and support to online faculty, as well as ongoing development efforts through design and delivery of workshops and other forms of faculty development; to be determined
  • Mentor instructors through the design, development, and facilitation of courses, Consults with individual instructors regarding their courses

Decision Making & Judgement:

  • Ensures alignment of learning outcomes with content, activities and assessment in courses; Utilizing independent judgment on course adjustments design. Autonomy to develop best practices and guides in ID space.
  • Authority to spend based on approved budget of director, AVP.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Entry level experience related to course design; an understanding of objective-based curriculum design and experience with Canvas Learning Management System and implementing innovative technologies
  • A master’s degree in instructional design or educational technology is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience producing instructional or educational media for online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced learning environments.
  • Proficiency with video editing, audio production, motion graphics, and multimedia development tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator).
