Position Summary

The School Culture and Wellness Instructional Assistant supports the development of a positive and inclusive school culture through a combination of instructional assistance, restorative practices, and behavioral support.

This role works closely with students, teachers, families, counselors, and school leadership to strengthen relationships, support student accountability, reinforce schoolwide expectations, and promote student success both academically and socially-emotionally.

The position balances classroom and instructional support responsibilities with restorative and culture-building responsibilities. The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, calm under pressure, and committed to helping students repair harm, build relationships, and remain engaged in learning.

Essential Responsibilities

Instructional & Classroom Support (10%)

  • Provide small group instructional support to students based on academic and behavioral data
  • Support classroom teachers in maintaining productive, safe, and respectful learning environments
  • Assist with implementation of classroom interventions and behavior support strategies
  • May participate in MTSS meetings and collaborate with teachers and support staff regarding student progress
  • Provide classroom coverage when necessary
  • Assist with hallway supervision, transitions, arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess, or other school support duties as assigned
  • Help maintain welcoming and organized classroom and hallway environments

Restorative Practices & Student Support (30%)

  • Facilitate restorative conversations, circles, and reflection processes with students
  • Support students in identifying the impact of their actions and developing plans to repair harm
  • Assist with re-entry meetings following suspensions or significant behavioral incidents
  • Provide check-ins and support for students needing additional behavioral or social-emotional guidance
  • Help students develop skills in emotional regulation, conflict resolution, accountability, and problem-solving
  • Support implementation and monitoring of student behavior support plans in collaboration with leadership and support staff
  • Maintain documentation related to restorative interventions and student support efforts
  • Reinforce schoolwide behavior expectations and restorative practices throughout the school day

School Culture & Community Building (30%)

  • Support implementation of High Point Academy's culture frameworks, including EL Education's Crew and Leader in Me's 7 Habits
  • Help facilitate proactive community-building activities and restorative circles
  • Promote respectful communication, student voice, belonging, and accountability
  • Support students in resolving peer conflict in productive and respectful ways
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Model professionalism, empathy, discretion, and solution-oriented thinking

Collaboration & Communication (30%)

  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families to support student success
  • Communicate professionally and maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times with students, families, staff and any external stakeholders
  • Follow established communication pathways and school procedures
  • Participate in required trainings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Education, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
  • Experience working with PreK–8 students in school settings
  • Experience supporting students with behavioral or social-emotional needs
  • Familiarity with restorative practices, SEL, trauma-informed practices, or conflict resolution strategies
  • Experience working with diverse student populations

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Compensation & Schedule

  • This is a full-time hourly position for the 2026–2027 school year
  • School hours are:
    • Monday/Wednesday: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
    • Tuesday/Thursday/Friday: 7:30 AM – 3:45 PM
  • Compensation is based on experience and qualifications
  • Benefits offered in accordance with High Point Academy policies
