Assistants will assist the primary course instructor in the education of students in the lab experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist during Structure Fire Science program course labs under the direction of the primary instructor answering student questions regarding lab exercises providing instruction in lab procedures monitoring of safety during labs requiring use of hand tools or power equipment administering of lab quizzes grading of lab quizzes or assignments. Assist in development of lab and lecture exercises and curriculum under direction of primary instructor. Conduct layout of field lab exercises checkout and in of equipment as needed. Perform minor maintenancecleaning of lab equipment in the tool room or field. Conduct data entry and analysis of lab data. Department Specific Knowledge Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess these knowledge skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform these essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies. Thorough knowledge in the field of Structure Fire at the technician level. Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics. Visual ability corrected to enable assistant to observe direct and supervise students in classroom situations. Familiarity with tools both hand and power that are used in structure fire. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment including overhead projectors film sound systems video television interactive video and audio equipment including computer-controlled mixed media presentations. Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials. Ability to orally communicate effectively with others using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter. Ability to communicate effectively in writing using the English language with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services. Familiarity with and ability to remain in communication with the SFS Program Director and program staff and faculty on a regular basis. Ability to review understand and apply concepts presented in training programs conferences andor professional literature. Ability to work with Forestry Program Director faculty Instructional Dean and other COCC staff at all levels. Willingness to travel andor teach at various hours and locations as required. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience Ergonomic Requirements Able to complete the essential job functions listed above with or without reasonable accommodation.
