Developmental Preschool Instructional Aide (IA)

We are currently seeking a highly qualified Developmental Preschool Instructional Aide to join our team and lead our efforts in providing outstanding special education services.

Position Overview:

The Developmental Preschool Instructional Aide provides essential support to teachers and staff in a developmental preschool setting. This position assists in implementing individualized educational and behavioral interventions to support the growth and development of young children with diverse needs. The Instructional Aide collaborates closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

Assistance in Instructional Delivery:

\u25cf Assist teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum activities that promote children's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development.

\u25cf Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with special needs, reinforcing concepts taught by the teacher and facilitating their engagement in classroom activities.

\u25cf Support students in developing independence, self-help skills, and positive behaviors through modeling, prompting, and encouragement.

Behavioral Support and Management:

\u25cf Implement behavior management strategies and interventions as directed by the teacher or behavior specialist, including reinforcement of positive behaviors and redirection of challenging behaviors.

\u25cf Monitor students' behavior and emotional responses during classroom activities, intervening as needed to prevent escalation and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.

\u25cf Collaborate with teachers and support staff to develop individualized behavior plans and support strategies for students with special needs.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

\u25cf Assist in administering informal assessments and observations to gather data on students' developmental progress, academic skills, and behavior.

\u25cf Document student progress and responses to interventions, maintaining accurate records and reports for use in instructional planning and decision-making.

\u25cf Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress, share observations, and contribute insights to inform instructional and intervention strategies.

Support for Inclusive Practices:

\u25cf Promote inclusion and acceptance of students with special needs within the classroom and school community, fostering positive peer interactions and relationships.

\u25cf Collaborate with teachers and therapists to adapt instructional materials, activities, and environments to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.

\u25cf Facilitate peer interactions and socialization opportunities for students with special needs, promoting a sense of belonging and mutual respect among all students.

Communication and Collaboration:

\u25cf Communicate regularly with teachers, therapists, and other team members to coordinate support services, share information about student progress and needs, and ensure continuity of care.

\u25cf Collaborate with families to provide updates on students' daily activities, achievements, and areas for growth, and solicit input on individualized goals and strategies.

\u25cf Participate in professional development activities and training opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in working with children with special needs.

Qualifications:

\u25cf High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or related field preferred.

\u25cf Previous experience working with young children, particularly those with special needs, in a preschool or educational setting preferred.

\u25cf Knowledge of child development principles, evidence-based instructional practices, and behavior management techniques.

\u25cf Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with teachers, staff, students, and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

\u25cf Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the growth and development of children with special needs.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, following the guidelines set by the school corporation.

Working Conditions:

The Developmental Preschool Instructional Aide typically works in a preschool or early childhood education setting, collaborating closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff. This position may involve frequent interaction with young children, including those with special needs, as well as administrative tasks related to program implementation and documentation. The Instructional Aide may also participate in professional development activities and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills in working with children with diverse needs.
