Supports the classroom teacher by helping young children develop academically, socially, emotionally, and physically in a safe and engaging learning environment.
Typical Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher with daily classroom instruction and activities.
- Supervise students during centers, recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
- Help students develop early literacy, math, social, and motor skills.
- Prepare instructional materials, bulletin boards, and classroom resources.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Support behavior management using positive reinforcement techniques.
- Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting and hygiene when necessary.
- Observe student progress and communicate concerns to the classroom teacher.
- Help implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or accommodations for students with special needs when assigned.
