Provides general coordination in enforcing the understanding and technical application of codes, ordinances and technical specifications for infrastructure construction, structures and systems. Meets with inspectors, general public, contractors, technical professionals, and businesses to respond to inquiries/ investigations and technical problems for lane/ sidewalk closures, special events, sidewalk cafés, and valet zones. Performs record keeping activities to maintain filing system, reports and documentation; Researches and evaluates plans, specifications, drawings/traffic control plans.WORKING CONDITIONS This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a high school diploma/GED, and up to 18 months of education or training in the area of inspection to be performed. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSTwo years of journey level or skilled experience related to the area of inspection to be performed are required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTSMay require a valid Texas drivers license and compliance with the City of Houstons policy on driving. PREFERENCES Preference may be given to applicants with knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD).
