The Fire Inspector is responsible for the enforcement of the Fire Code and related Municipal Ordinances adopted by the City of Youngstown. Further responsibilities include, but not limited to, a fire education program for the citizens and business owners in the boundaries of the City. As well as any assigned deities by the Chief of the Department. the Fire Inspector will continue a fire damage and escrow program for aby fire damaged structures, in compliance with the existing program. Work involves the responsibility for improving standards of public safety and securing compliance with all fire prevention laws, ordinances, and accepted standards through the inspection of commercial buildings falling under their jurisdiction, as stated in the adopted Fire Code. They are to work in conjunction with City business to ensure compliance in a timely manner. When the inspection of any commercial building falls outside the scope of their jurisdiction, or another entity has joint jurisdiction with the city, The Bureau will work in union with the entity, accompanying them on co-inspection, or sharing of information from previous inspections.
Examples of Duties
Inspect all commercial structures falling under their jurisdiction as per the Adopted Codes and Ordinances of the City of Youngstown. Ensure acceptance and Compliance of all covered systems and appliances in these buildings.
Investigate any complaints of noncompliance to Adopted Codes including but not limited to; overcrowding, illegal storage, or burning complaints.
Conduct fire Drills as required and conduct Fire Safety Programs as requested by any school or business in the City.
Assist any agency, State or Federal with enforcement of Codes and Standards falling under their jurisdiction.
Issue any other permits as necessary and proper for the fire safety of the Community.
Maintain all appropriate records of inspections done, and permits issued for a period of time deemed necessary by the Citys Law Department.
Minimum Qualifications
Hold and maintain a current Certification from the State of Ohio as a Certified Fire Safety Inspector or be able to obtain the State of Ohio Certification as a Fire Safety Inspector within Six (6) months of hire. Must hold and maintain a current State of Ohio Level 2 Fire fighter Certification. Have considerable knowledge of Fire Prevention Codes, standards, laws, ordinances, rules and regulations enforced by the City of Youngstown. As well as, knowledge of inspection practices, techniques and documentation there of. Have the ability to recognize and define a number of fire hazards and be able to recommend remediation that the inspector will come in contact with on a daily basis. Ability to carry out instruction

BONUS POINTS WILL BE ADDED TO PASSING SCORES (70%) ON THE FOLLOWING BASIS:
20% - MILITARY (DD-214 showing 180 days of active duty service and proof of honorable discharge required) 15% - Reserve Component - upon completion of entry-level training.
15% - PROOF OF CITY RESIDENCY (Submit four (4) different proofs of residency from one (1) year ago and four (4) different current proofs of residency - total of 8) Proof of Residency must be scanned and emailed to civilservice@youngstownohio.gov
