This position is occupied by AGACNP/ACNP nurse practitioners (NP) and/or physician assistants (PA) who care for patients in the hospital as they go through diagnosis/treatment of oncologic disorders. The APP is responsible for evaluating and treating patients with malignancies and/or disorders related to their oncologic diagnoses, including but not limited to early phase clinical trial patients. Position Description: Inpatient, CMC-Main Full-time (40 hours) Day shift, four 10-hour shifts including Saturday and Sunday Holidays rotation and back-up call No night shifts Teaching opportunities with APP and Physician Fellows Chemotherapy credentialing is optional Position Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program. Must be Acute Care NP or Physician Assistant. Current license to practice as a NP or PA in North Carolina. Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required. BLS for healthcare provider from AHA required. Nurse practitioners are required to have a master's degree or doctorate in nursing practice. Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred. Current or pending CAQ certification preferred. +1 years of experience preferred. Oncology experience preferred but not required. Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills when working in a fast paced, high acuity work environment. Able to effectively prioritize competing demands and maintain focus amid frequent interruptions. Able to work with multidisciplinary team. Essential Functions Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments. Able to perform thorough history and physical assessment. Records findings of examinations, assessments and plan of care. Writes appropriate prescriptions. Orders and interprets laboratory and radiology examinations. Determines treatment plan for patient in coordination with multidisciplinary team. Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record. Plans and conducts chemotherapy education in collaboration with pharmacy. Acts as a patient advocate for the population served. Actively participates and engages in goals of care conversations Attends, participates and contributes to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested. Physical Requirements Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations.
